Over 3000 locals forced to flee due to junta shelling in Yebyu

More than 3,000 locals have been forced to flee their homes as military junta troops continue daily artillery shelling in Yebyu Township, Tanintharyi Region, according to people assisting the displaced.

Since the last week of May, Yebyu-based junta battalions have been targeting Min Thar village tract with artillery, forcing residents to flee for safety, according to aid workers.

These artillery strikes have led to over 3,000 people fleeing from eight villages, including Sin Swei, Min Thar, Sein Bon, Hpa Yar Thone Su, Nat Gyi Sin, Yae Ngan Gyi, and Kyauk Ta Lone.

While food and medicine are currently being provided to the displaced population, aid efforts are reportedly struggling to keep up with the growing number of displaced people.

Furthermore, with the monsoon season approaching, a lack of essential provisions such as food, medicine, and shelter could lead to significant health issues for the displaced people, aid workers warn.

According to a report by the FE 5 Tanintharyi, a local research group, the number of people displaced by armed clashes between the two sides in the Tanintharyi Region has exceeded 75,300.

The research group also reports that some displaced people in the Tanintharyi Region are frequently suffering from malaria, diarrhea, skin diseases, and respiratory illnesses, compounded by an inadequate supply of medicine.
