India’s army handed training simulators to Myanmar’s military during staff talks in Naypyitaw on 28 and 29 October, at least the fourth time since September 2025 that Indian forces have publicly announced giving equipment to the junta’s armed forces.

According to a post on X by the Indian Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information, the eighth India-Myanmar Army-to-Army Staff Talks focused on joint training, exercises, capacity building and professional exchanges.

The post said the simulators were handed over to the Myanmar Army, “further reinforcing bilateral military ties and mutual trust.” It did not say what type of simulators were provided or how many.

Myanmar’s Ministry of Information said the talks were held at the Park Royal Hotel in Naypyitaw. The Myanmar side was led by Lt-Gen Nyi Lin Aung of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), and the Indian side by Maj-Gen Mahipal Singh Rathore, Additional Director General of International Cooperation.

The ministry said both delegations read out the meeting’s decisions and accomplishments, but it did not disclose them.

The talks are the latest in a series of military exchanges since the military, which seized power in a February 2021 coup, installed junta leader Min Aung Hlaing, who declared himself “president,” as head of state in April.

The handover follows a sequence of earlier transfers announced by Indian forces. In September 2025, during the seventh round of staff talks, the Indian Army presented a visiting Myanmar delegation with IT laboratory equipment to strengthen its digital training capabilities. In February, an Indian Army team installed a 12-lane infantry weapon training simulator at the Myanmar Army Combat Forces School in Bahtoo, southern Shan State, and trained Myanmar soldiers to operate it. In May, Indian Navy chief Adm. Dinesh K. Tripathi handed the Myanmar Navy a containerised small arms simulator and a rigid inflatable boat during a four-day visit, according to the Indian Navy.

Earlier this month, on 7 October, Indian Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Lt-Gen Pyae Sone Linn, Myanmar’s Chief of Armed Forces Training, co-chaired the third India-Myanmar Defence Cooperation Meeting in Guwahati. India’s Ministry of Defence said the two sides discussed new initiatives with special emphasis on training and capacity building.

During their stay, the Indian delegation also visited pagodas in Naypyitaw and Inle Lake in southern Shan State, according to the Ministry of Information.
