Locals reported casualties following the military council’s airstrikes in Mawchi area of Hpasawng Township, Karenni State, at around 11:00 a.m. on 25 June.
“The junta bombed a crowded area where locals and mining workers gather. Since the houses are built along a mountainside slope, many of them collapsed,” said a local woman.
A local resident near the airstrike site reported witnessing a mining worker killed by the bombing. Details regarding the full extent of damage and injuries remain unclear.
“There could be many people injured. We’re staying vigilant because the aircraft is still circling overhead,” said another local resident.
Locals said the bombing was carried out after locals saw a reconnaissance plane hovering over the area for about 15 minutes before the bombing.
Locals report that the military council has carried out six airstrikes on the Mawchi area—including the most recent attack—even though no fighting has taken place there.
The military council carried out airstrikes on 7 March, 24 April, 26 April, 10 May, 13 May, and 25 June in 2025 — one on each of those dates.
At least 10 civilians were killed and over 30 others injured in the airstrike.
