TNLA to form people’s revolutionary government with public representatives in controlled areas

The Ta’ang Political Consultative Council (TPCC) has announced it will establish a people’s revolutionary government with public representatives from areas under Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) control as swiftly as possible within 2025.

At a high-level political meeting held from 1-3 June 2025, the TPCC resolved to establish the Ta’ang Land Council (TLC) as the highest political authority during the revolutionary period, according to a statement released on 9 June.

The TPCC, formed on 24 March 2021, comprises the Ta’ang National Party (TNP), the Palaung State Liberation Front/ Ta’ang National Liberation Army (PSLF/TNLA), and Ta’ang (Palaung) civil society organizations. The council has been restructured to oversee three key sectors—administration, legislation, and judiciary—according to the statement.

“The main goal is to lead the formation of a revolutionary government and oversee the three major pillars, and take a leading role in the political leadership of the Ta’ang people,” said Mai Naing Gaung Zar, TPCC Secretary.

The meeting was attended by 83 senior leaders from the three organizations, who approved the revolutionary interim government plan.

“Broadly speaking, we’re preparing to set up all the necessary departments for a revolutionary government. Roughly, this includes the townships controlled by the PSLF/TNLA during Operation 1027,” Mai Naing Gaung Zar added.

The newly restructured Ta’ang Land Council is led by TNLA Chairman Major General Tar Aik Bong, with two vice-chairs, four members, a secretary, and a joint secretary, totaling nine members, including four women.

The Ta’ang Land Council aims to establish a revolutionary people’s government in 2025, based on territories liberated from the military junta by the TNLA and its allies during “Operation 1027,” with appropriate public representatives.

In addition, the council pledged to collaborate with other resistance forces in Myanmar to build a federal union, as stated in the release.

Currently, the TNLA controls 12 towns. During the meeting in April 2025, the junta demanded the TNLA relinquish control of Nawnghkio, Kyaukme, Hsipaw, Mogok, and Moemeik, but no agreement was reached.

Under the Chinese government’s mediation, the TNLA and the junta are scheduled to meet again in August, according to reports.
