The military council has tightened inspections and carrying out indiscriminate shelling after the attack on the military checkpoint in Ar Yu Taung village in northern Ye Township, Mon State, according to locals.

On 8 June, the Ye-Balu resistance group launched a raid on the checkpoint manned by troops from Light Infantry Battalion (LIB)-343, located in Ar Yu Taung village.

Locals reported that in the evening following the attack on the checkpoint, troops from the military council’s Light Infantry Battalions 343 and 587 fired three rounds of artillery.

A local resident said that junta soldiers are currently stationed at the entrance and exit of Ar Yu Taung village, intensifying inspections of people passing through.

“Now, the military council has deployed more than 10 soldiers each in front of Thit Sat camp and at other entry and exit points of the village. Junta troops are stopping people heading to the plantations, forcing them to gather in groups, and carrying out inspections,” said the local resident.

The leader of the Ye-Balu group, which is primarily active in Ye Township, said that they will soon launch military operations and conduct raids to clear out junta military bases and checkpoints in the area. In light of this, the leader urged local residents to be cautious in their movements.

.“Yesterday, we cleared out the Ar Yu Taung camp. We had already issued prior warnings that we would be seizing junta camps in the coming days. The military operations are about to intensify, so we urge the Mon community to be cautious with their movements during this time,” said the leader of the Ye-Balu group.

Currently, junta troops are abandoning their outposts in the Aye Ywar Taung village tract, including areas such as Kundu, Hpayar Kone, Phaw Htaw, Kwan Thit Taw, and Ar Yu Taung, due to fear of potential attacks by resistance forces.

The Ye-Balu group frequently targets and eliminates soldiers, police, and their collaborators in Ye Township, while also conducting military operations in coordination with local resistance forces.
