Junta troops advance on Sa Nun Kone village in Inn Taw Gyi area

Military junta troops and the Shanni Nationalities Army (SNA) are conducting an offensive on Sa Nun Kone village with air support in the Inn Daw Gyi area of Monyin Township, Kachin State, according to local sources.

Since 14 May, a combined force of around 500 junta and SNA soldiers have been attacking Sa Nun Kone and the Inn Thar area, controlled by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and Kachin People’s Defense Force (KPDF), using airstrikes and artillery, residents of Nam Mun reported.

A man from Nam Mun said: “Yesterday, they bombed Sa Nun Kone with aircraft and fired machine guns. The sound of artillery was deafening. They’re trying to advance into the Sa Lun Kone and Inn Thar areas, but they’re facing resistance.”

On the evening of 15 May, the junta deployed a fighter jet to bomb areas along Sa Nun Kone village and fired artillery from Nam Mun, according to sources.

Due to heightened military tensions in the Sa Lun Kone and Inn Thar areas, the Nam Mun-He Pu- Long San road was closed to traffic on 14 May.

Another Inn Daw Gyi resident said: “The eastern road to the Inn Thar area is blocked; you can’t pass through. That’s the Nam Mun-He Pu route. The Inn Daw Gyi-Hway Hkar road is still open, but they are nothing alike.”

As the junta advances with a large number of troops, residents of villages in eastern Inn Daw Gyi, including He Pu, He Par, Sa Nun Kone, and Inn Thar, have fled to safer areas, locals reported.

Since 20 April, the junta and SNA troops have been launching offensives in the Inn Daw Gyi area.

These operations are not limited to Inn Daw Gyi but extend to Hpakant, with the junta troops advancing along three routes.

Approximately 1,000 junta soldiers are attempting to penetrate Hpakant through three fronts—Kamaing Road, Inn Daw Gyi area, and the Se Zin-Tar Ma Hkan highway.

Clashes at these three entry points have been ongoing for about 20 days, according to locals.
