The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and its allied forces intercepted a military junta column of over 150 troops heading to reinforce the Ah Nan Kwin strategic hilltop camp in Win Yay Township (Ye Township), Dooplaya District, under the Karen National Union’s (KNU) Brigade 6 territory, military sources report.

Since late December, the joint KNLA forces have been conducting ongoing interception operations against junta troops attempting to reach the Ah Nan Kwin strategic hilltop camp for troop rotation and reinforcement via land routes.

According to a KNLA frontline source, the resistance attack killed approximately 30 junta soldiers and injured around 50 others.

“There were about 155 of them coming up through the jungle route. After our repeated interception attacks, they probably only have about 30 people left, counting both dead and wounded. They haven’t reached their camp yet, though they’re near it now,” said the KNLA source.

According to a reliable local KNLA source, the junta column, which continues its advance despite suffering heavy casualties from joint KNLA forces’ encirclement, includes tactical commander Min Kaik from Division 44.

The column’s advance is reportedly intended to replace Wunna Hlaing, current commander at Ah Nan Kwin strategic hilltop camp.

The source went on to say that in addition to inflicting heavy casualties, the combined KNLA troops also captured small arms and ammunition that the junta troops were carrying.

The joint KNLA forces have been intensifying military operations since March 2024 to capture the junta’s Ah Nan Kwin strategic hilltop camp, located on the Thanbyuzayat- Hpa Yar Thone Su road.

They have cut off all supply routes except for air support.

According to KNLA Brigade 6, while troops at Ah Nan Kwin strategic hilltop camp continue to refuse the joint KNLA forces’ surrender terms to this day, some soldiers have fled the camp as the fighting has prolonged.
