In a report dated 16 December, the research group stated that most arrests were made under various pretexts, including forced military recruitment, being used as human shields during military operations, and allegations of connections People’s Defense Forces (PDFs).

The report details that at least 358 civilians were arrested, with only 157 released and two confirmed dead.

In November, 14 civilians were killed, with 11 of those deaths resulting directly from the arrests made by the junta, according to the report.

There were 23 armed clashes between junta troops and resistance forces in Tanintharyi Region in November. These clashes, along with artillery shelling and gunfire, forced as many as 68,000 people to flee their homes.

The FE5 Tanintharyi report also noted that in October, 19 civilians were killed and 208 were arrested in the Tanintharyi Region.
