The military carried out bombings on Wu Yang, Moke Kyeik, Nam War and surrounding areas in Waingmaw Township, Kachin State, where no active fighting was occurring, causing considerable damage to the houses, according to local sources.
On 24 November, the junta bombed around seven times with a Y-12 plane on Nam War village , injuring one civilian and damaging three houses, according to a local resident.
“Yesterday evening, they bombed about seven times with planes. The bombings destroyed three houses. A resident was injured by shrapnel but it’s not serious. Then Waingmaw-based Infantry Battalion 58 provided artillery support too,” said the local resident.
Although the fighting in Waingmaw Township has been relatively quiet for about eight months, the military continues to conduct airstrikes on civilian villages, the source added.
After the bombing that day, around 10pm, IB58 was reported to have fired artillery indiscriminately/
A resident from Myitkyina reported hearing continuous artillery sounds from the Waingmaw area.
“Last night, I could hear artillery sounds from the Waingmaw area. The sounds were only coming from the Waimaw side. The phone lines are down, so we don’t know exactly what’s happening,” the Myitkyina resident said.
Since April, fighting has been ongoing in Wu Yang, Moke Kyeik and Nam War villages in Waingmaw Township, where the military is currently conducting airstrikes.
As a result, more local residents have been forced to flee to nearest displaced persons’ camps, while some have returned to their villages due to livelihood challenges.
According to reports, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has established positions in the upper areas of these villages along Waingmaw -Sa Done road, with junta troops occupying areas from Wu Yang village to Waingmaw town.
