Two children—a months-old infant and a young child—were injured by the military council’s drone strikes and heavy shelling on Kyaung Kone village in Kyaukkyi Township in Nyaunglebin District in the territory under the control of Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade-3.

At around 10 am on 13 November, the military council launched an attack on Kyaung Kone village using heavy shells and drones although there was no active fighting near the village. The shells hit the house and exploded, injuring two children, a local woman said.

“The children’s parents were not at home and were therefore not injured. I think the older child was asked to watch over the baby in the cradle. The shell directly struck the house, causing the injuries. Both children have been taken to the hospital, and the older child suffered severe injuries,” the local woman explained.

According to residents, some villagers fled Kyaung Kone as the military council troops continued their attack on the village throughout the afternoon on the same day.

In the last week of October and throughout November, joint resistance forces intercepted a military column in Kyaukkyi Township. Residents report that the junta is deliberately targeting the village in retaliation for the heavy casualties its soldiers sustained from these attacks.

In November, the military council fired heavy artillery at villages in Kyaukkyi, Mone, and Shwekyin Townships, injuring two civilians and destroying a school and several homes, according to a statement from the KNU (Central) on 12 November.
