The military council carried out airstrikes following the reinforcement of troops by the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA)-Kokang army in Mongyai Township of Shan State, according to military sources.
According to a military source, the MNDAA and resistance forces dispatched reinforcements to Hoya village in Mongyai Township in the last week of September.
The Kokang army and resistance forces sent reinforcements to Hoya village through Hsipaw and Naungkaw, while the resistance advanced via Mandalay.
They have intensified their operations over the past three days following these reinforcements, according to the military source.
On the night of 29 September, the military council bombed Kaung Naung village with three fighter jets, raising concerns among locals, a local man from Mongyai said.
The junta dropped around seven bombs with three fighter jets. The military council conducted airstrikes as the Kokang army sent reinforcements.
Residents have fled to nearby village as local residents are worried. The military targeted the village because the Kokang forces were present there, the local man said.
Regarding the military council’s attacks on the MNDAA, the military source said: “There is no law in the country. The military council responded with airstrikes as it saw the MNDAA’s actions as an invasion. The military council will conduct constant attacks. After the end of the rainy season, they will continue to attack. The military council will not grant self-administration to any organization.”
As of 30 September, the military council has been bombing the Northeast Command in Lashio, which it had lost.
Local residents report that the United Wa State Army (UWSA), MNDAA, Shan State Progress Party/Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA), revolutionary forces, and military council forces are all active in Mongyai Township.
