Residents report that the number of displaced people in Saytoketayar Township of Magway Region is growing to the thousands, and the need for food for these displaced people is growing.

After the fighting in August and September, more than 1,400 people from the villages of Wunlo, Khonan, and Monhnyin in Saytoketayar Township have been displaced.

A local resident said, “The army and Pyu Saw Htee seized all the collected items. Although the defense forces are currently helping the IDPs, it is not enough.”

As local defense forces are mainly active in Pwint Phyu Township, which is close to Saytoketayar Township, regiments and units including Pwint Phyu People’s Defence Team, Saytoketayar Township People’s Defence Team and People’s Administration Team and Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement are helping IDPs, locals said.

A member of the defense force remarked, “We distribute aid as much as we can, including what we receive from above. However, it is still insufficient for temporary relief.”

The primary items needed by IDPs include rice, cooking oil, salt, and personal essentials.

However, the military council has imposed restrictions on purchasing these supplies.

In addition, displaced villages are experiencing multiple crises due to a lack of buyers and income, as they primarily depend on the bamboo industry.
