People displaced from Kyunhla and Kanbalu Townships in Sagaing Region are currently experiencing seasonal flu and are in urgent need of medicine.

Regarding the delivery of necessary medicine and treatment to the IDPs in Kyunhla and Kanbalu region, an official of Kyunhla-Kanbalu Activists Group said: “It’s the rainy season. Many people develop symptoms like runny noses, coughs, and flu. Almost everyone is affected by this seasonal flu. Patients typically recover when they complete the prescribed course of treatment. Because it is a seasonal flu. We provide treatment free of charge.”

In addition to the challenges posed by armed conflicts and transportation issues, the official highlighted that the prices of supplies and medicine have tripled due to the junta’s roadblocks.

This has made it increasingly difficult for people to afford essential supplies and medical care.

The official continued: “Medicine prices have surged dramatically. Previously, we could obtain medicine on credit, but now we must pay in cash, which is a significant challenge. The cost of medicine has tripled, causing delays in providing medical treatment to the IDPs due to our limited funds. Despite these difficulties, we are doing our best to ensure they receive the care they need.”

According to the IDPs and aid workers, the price of a bottle of Paracetamol is Ks-50,000 and 10 packets of Amoxicillin is 25,000.

A displaced woman from Kyunhla said in addition to medicine, IDPs from the Kyunhla-Kanbalu region urgently need basic food, waterproof sheets, and clothing.

“In the rainy season, the IDPs urgently need basic food supplies and proper shelters. The IDPs have been taking refuge at Koe Taung Bo station for over two years. While some are managing, those at other stations are struggling. Their primary needs now are adequate shelters, basic food, medicine, and clothing,” she added.

In the Kyunhla and Kanbalu areas, over 10,000 civilians who fled the conflict and the military service law are seeking refuge. These displaced civilians come from the villages of Kyauk Aing, Ta Paung, Hnget Pyaw Taw, Ngar Bat Aing, Than Bo, Bo Kone, San Pya, Kyi Kone, Ywar Thi, Zee Taw, and Chaung Kwayt.

In July, the military council conducted drone attacks on Tha Yet Gaung and Tha Byay Thar villages in Kanbalu Township, killing three civilians and burning down 72 civilian houses.
