Junta bombs Demoso Township for two consecutive days

The military council’s jet fighters carried out bombings in areas near Nam Mal Khon in Demoso Township, Karenni (Kayah) State, on 4 and 5 September, for two consecutive days, according to residents.

At around 10 am on 5 September, the military council’s jet fighter dropped two 500-pound bombs. One resident was killed in the attack. Details of other damages are still being investigated.

“The junta dropped two 500-pound bombs and fired shots with point-8. One person was killed in the attack. We don’t know whether the victim is male or female. The attack caused significant damages,” said Ko Phoe Zaw who is helping the IDPs.

After bombing by a jet fighter, the junta fired heavy shells at the western part of Demoso, a local women said.

At around 3.30 pm on 4 September, the military council carried out an attack with bombs near Myoma Shan ward in Nam Mal Khon. There was no report of causalities from the attack, said U Ba Nyar, Secretary-2 of the Karenni State Interim Executive Council (IEC).

“The military council’s jet fighter dropped bombs about one mile north of the No.2 Police Station in Myoma Shan Ward, Nam Mal Khon. The bombs landed and exploded at the edge of the ward, but no buildings or houses were damaged,” U Ba Nyar.

Residents reported that since the third week of August, the military council has been indiscriminately firing heavy artillery at villages in Demoso Township. The bombings have continued unabated.

On 25 August, four 120-mm shells, fired indiscriminately at the villages, landed and exploded in two villages to the east of Demoso. The shelling injured a child and destroyed three houses.

According to a statement by the Karenni Human Rights Group, on 30 August, heavy shells fired by Infantry Battalion-102, based in Demoso, destroyed paddy and corn plantations in the village.
