The party is a member of the 7 EAO Alliance and still adheres to the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA). On 13 February 2025, the NMSP announced to the public on the 78th Mon National Day that it is fighting for the right of its people to create their own destiny through various means. It urged the public to join hands with armed resistance organizations, political parties, and democratic organizations to achieve the Mon people’s goal of establishing a Mon State. The NMSP also stated that political negotiations have been halted since the military coup and that it is concerned about the public’s insecurity and the prolonged civil war due to the military junta’s election law and conscription law. 4 On 14 February 2024, those who could not accept the NMSP’s policy of continuing the NCA path, including the party’s General Secretary Nai Zeya and Brigadier General Salun Htaw, split from the party and formed the New Mon State Party-Anti-Dictatorship (NMSP-AD). On 6 October 2024, Battalion (5) of the NMSP, led by Lieutenant Colonel Nai Vut Monin the Hpayarthonesu area of Kyarinseikkyi Township, also split from the party and joined the NMSP-AD. The NMSP-AD has been cooperating with the National Unity Government (NUG) and has been actively organizing, forming alliances, and militarily pressuring the military junta with other local revolutionary forces. The NMSP-AD is also participating in the “Bottom-Up Federalism” approach to building a future federal democratic union. The NMSP-AD has stated that it will build a Mon State and a federal democratic union with full national equality and self-determination. Resistance organizations and civil society groups in the Mon region are hoping for the New Mon State Party to stop engaging with the military junta and welcome its participation in the anti-junta revolutionary movement. 4.
