The NDAA-ESS, holding the principle of “peace, unity, and development,” practices a non-aligned political stance. According to the late Chairman U Sai Lin, they are working to protect and maintain stability along the border, safeguard the basic interests of local ethnic groups, preserve unity with allied organizations, and achieve their political goal of obtaining an ethnic self-administered region. It is understood that the NDAA-ESS, which has held informal talks with the military junta, has requested that their Eastern Shan State Special Region (4) be designated as a self-administered region.

When “Operation 1027” of the Three Brotherhood Alliance began in northern Shan State, the NDAA-ESS released a statement in line with their non-aligned political stance, stating that they would not participate in or interfere with any conflict and would continue to maintain border stability. The NDAA also hosted the meetings between the military junta and the Three Brotherhood Alliance, which were mediated by the Chinese government.

The new chairman of Special Region (4), U Htein Lin, has stated that under his leadership, the organization will continue to work toward its political goal of achieving a high degree of self-administration while maintaining the momentum of stable development, harmony, and a “beautiful social environment.”

However, the military junta declared on 1 August 2025, that Mongla Township, where the NDAA-ESS is based, would be placed under martial law. During  a meeting on 7 August, between the NDAA-ESS and a delegation led by the junta’s Shan State Chief Minister and the Commander of the Triangle Region Military Command, the NDAA General Secretary U Kyi Myint stated that the declaration of martial law in Mongla Township was inappropriate.
