The KNU/KNLA-PC continues to adhere to the NCA and has been engaged in informal talks with the military junta. It is also a member of the 7 EAO Alliance. Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt, the General Secretary of the KNU/KNLA-PC, serves as the Joint General Secretary of the 7 EAO Alliance. He has stated that the current political crisis in Myanmar can only be solved through political means and that they will negotiate with all relevant stakeholders.

In January 2023, rumors circulated that the KNU/KNLA-PC was fighting alongside junta forces after backpacks with KNU/KNLA-PC insignias were found among the belongings of the military junta’s soldiers during a battle with the Kawthoolei Army (KTLA) near Kyondoe town. Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt later clarified that they had no intention of fighting alongside the military junta.

The KNU/KNLA-PC has also released a statement urging vigilance against various forms of subversive infiltration and expressing opposition to destructive actions aimed at undermining their efforts to protect the Karen people from the ravages of war.
