The four political objectives of the ABSDF are: to free all oppressed ethnic peoples from military dictatorship, to establish democracy and human rights, to achieve internal peace, and to establish a federal union. After the military coup on 1 February 2021, the ABSDF suspended its cooperation under the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) and fully participated in the Spring Revolution, fighting to end the military dictatorship and build a federal democratic union. Over four years into the Spring Revolution, the ABSDF’s involvement, alliance-building, and military and political shifts within the resistance forces opposing the military junta have become more pronounced.

On 12 September 2024, the National Unity Government (NUG) and the ABSDF signed a memorandum of understanding, agreeing to cooperate in political, public mobilization, military, and financial sectors. The two organizations aim to build a strong relationship based on mutual understanding and recognition of political dignity, and to work together to end military dictatorship and establish a future federal democratic union. 1

The ABSDF has been accelerating its efforts to establish agreements, find solutions, and form alliances with regional resistance forces. These efforts include holding discussions with the Burma Liberation Democratic Front (BLDF) on 7 May 2025; the People’s Revolutionary Alliance (PRA – Magway) on 26 May; the Yaw Army (YA) on 9 June; the Anyar Tactic on 19 July; and the Student Front/Student Armed Force (SF/SAF), Yadanarpon Column on 25 July. The purpose of these discussions is to cooperate on military, political, public mobilization, and defense activities.

In addition to intensifying cooperation with resistance forces in the Anyar region, the ABSDF has participated in the battles to capture junta bases and towns led by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the battles to capture junta bases led by the Karen National Union (KNU), as well as battles to capture led by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Similarly, various ABSDF columns, along with local resistance groups, continue to conduct military offensives against the junta in townships across six states and regions: Sagaing, Magway, Shan (North), Mandalay, Mon, and Tanintharyi.
