A military column set fire to 18 civilian houses in Ahneint village in Kyaukhtu in Saw Township in Magway Region, according to local residents.
On 3 August, a military column of around 120 soldiers from Kyaukhtu Artillery Battalion set fire to Ahneint village in Kyaukhtu.
“They torched the houses and then left for the Kyaukhtu Artillery Battalion. The villagers managed to extinguish the fire an hour later,Ó said Ko Aung Gyi from Yaw Alin Tan.
Junta soldiers from Kyaukhtoo Artillery Battalion arrived in Mingyi, Letpan and Pasoke villages. At around 10:30 am, the junta soldiers began setting fire to Ahneint village, said Ko Aung Gyi.
The military column torched Ahneint village without any ground fighting. The blaze could have destroyed the entire village if the residents had not managed to put it out, locals said.
The military column’s arson destroyed 18 houses in Ahneint village which is home to around 130 households, according to locals.
On 16 July, a heavy shell fired by Kyaukhtu Artillery Battalion killed one villager and wounded two others in Kyantaw village.
On the evening of 12 April, a heavy shell fired by Kyaukhtu Artillery Battalion hit Tay village near Kyaukhtu, killing one villager and wounding two others, said the villagers.
Since the coup, around 10 civilians have been killed by heavy shells fired by the Kyaukhtu Artillery Battalion, according to the records.
