One of two members of a social organization was killed in Lasho of Shan State, after being beaten and tortured, according to social organizations.

On 26 July, the military council forces stationed on Moelonelaykone Street in Lashio arrested Ko Zaw Myo Aung, 24, and Aike Lar, 27, for no apparent reason as they were preparing to distribute essentials like rice, edible oil, and salt to internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Military council soldiers cut their mouths with knifes and beat their heads with guns during interrogation because they suspected them of being members of ethnic armed forces, according to social organizations in Lashio.

Aike Lar, a friend of Ko Zaw Myo Aung, could not bear the torture of the military council and died on the spot. Ko Zaw Myo Aung was imprisoned, according to a member of the social organization close to them.

At first, we were unaware of their arrest. As far as we know, they have been missing since 27 July. Since then, we have been searching for information about them. We only received confirmation of their situation today. We are deeply saddened by this news. It should not have happened, especially considering they were engaged in social activities.”

Aike Lar (aka) Maung Mar Hla, 27, is a Kachin ethnic and also a member of the social organization in Lashio.

Ko Zaw Myo Aung, who was arrested, was rescued by the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA)-Kokang. Following the capture of the junta’s heavily fortified area in Lashio, MNDAA troops discovered Ko Zaw Myo Aung in custody of the military council forces and promptly rescued him.

“We denounce the brutal torture and killing of two members of our organization. The victory will belong solely to the just war,” he said.

The ongoing fighting in Lashio has led to civilian casualties, and the bodies of the deceased cannot be retrieved from the town.

More than 130 civilians were killed and 170 others were wounded during the second wave of Operation 1027 in northern Shan State from 25 June to 31 July.
