Women close to the military council are being mobilized to serve in the military in Mawlamyine of Mon State, and at least six registered women are being trained at the Mawlamyine military training school, said residents.
The women who have voluntarily registered to serve in the military are promised to be given a suitable position and to receive benefits at the rate of 8,000 kyats per day, said a resident of Mawlamyine,
“The main point is the military wants to provide incentives, ensuring that female recruits receive salaries.” Now women close to the military are undergoing training at the military training school near Mawlamyine university. I don’t know where they will be deployed. One trainee is from Bokone ward. They appear to do this to make a show especially when government officials visit. They don’t compile the list door to door,” the resident said.
Likewise, female staff who are eligible for military service will be called up in Kyaikto Township, said a person close to the military council in Kyaikto.
“Non-CDM staff and interested women will be mainly recruited for the military training. I have not heard that women are interested and entrolled for the military training,” he said.
Especially, the junta is mobilizing the women from the municial department as well as the staff from General Administration Department and Immigration Department and Pyu Saw Htee members, to serve in the military.
Currently, men and women who have received military training are patrolling Mawlamyine at night in military uniforms, said local sources.
As women will be called up for the military training batch-5, officials under the military council is mobilizing the women who have passed matriculation exam in addition to non-CDM female staff.
As the deadline for conscription of women approaches, hundreds of women from Mon State are reportedly fleeing to liberated areas, according to officials from the Mon State Revolutionary Force (MSRF), which accepts those seeking refuge due to the military service law.
