Four of the villagers abducted by the military council troops advancing towards the deep seaport in Zar Di village-tract in Kanpauk area in Yebyu Township in Tanintharyi Region, were found dead, locals from Zar Di village said.

The military council beat and abducted over 10 men and women from Khaung Pyan village along the road while entering Zar Di village on 1 July, locals said.

Four of the abductees were found dead—one near a creek in Khaung Pyan village on 3 July and three more in the same creek in the afternoon of 4 July.

A local from Zar Di said, “The rest are still missing. We have not found them in Nabule. We don’t know whether they are in Tayoke Sike. On the afternoon of 4 July, four more bodies of men were found. On 3 July, one body was found. Among them is a man in his 50s.”

Currently, a detainee was freed. Family members are worried as the abducted men and women are still missing, the Zar Di village resident said.

This morning, the military council troops stationed in Zar Di village shot an elderly man dead and took household properties, he added.

Locals from Zar Di, Khaung Pyan, and Dike Ta Kaw villages are seeking refuge in forests and other safer locations as military council forces continue to arrest local men and women to use them as human shields and commit acts of violence.

“They took belongings from the houses in the village using car. They abducted the men in the houses. They are active in Nabule after a merger of the military columns from Kanpauk and Yebyu. Locals have fled to safety,” said a local from Zar Di village-tract.

Locals say that a 200-strong column coming from the Kanpauk area and a 300-strong column from Yebyu are currently conducting offensives in the deep seaport and Nabule area following the retreat of resistance forces.

Since the end of June, the military council has been conducting airstrikes and shelling. The resistance forces believe that the military council’s efforts are aimed at gaining control over Na Bu Le and the deep seaport.
