The military council has arrested six locals from Laema village in Pwintphyu Township of Magway Region, for no apparent reason, a local said.

The junta arrested six villagers—four on 25 April and two on 26 April.

A local resident said that those arrested were National League for Democracy (NLD) supporters who returned to the village by paying money after the military coup.

“Most of the detainees are NLD supporters. They had to pay money to return to the village. Now, they returned to the village since then. The military arrests and tortures them,” the local resident said.

The military council is torturing the detained locals. They are being interrogated in Maezali police station, the local resident said.

Six locals got arrested after the gunmen fired shots at U Htay Min in Laema village, at his home on the evening of 25 April.

Since the coup, the junta has arrested nearly 30,000 civilians across the country. Of them, more than 10,000 detainees are linked to the NLD.
