Military council conducts airstrikes as fighting intensifies in Palaw

The military council is conducting airstrikes as fighting has been intensifying between the military council and revolutionary forces in Mee Laung Chaung village in Palaw Township of Tanintharyi Region since the morning of 30 January, according to local residents.

The revolutionary forces also said that the fighting between the two sides was fierce as the joint revolutionary forces raided the military council’s camp based in Mee Laung Chaung village.

Till the afternoon of 30 January, hundreds of passenger buses were stranded on the Myeik-Dawei Union Road section. Thousands of locals fled to safer places due to the Mee Laung Chaung battle, according to locals and members of the local defense force.

Since January this year, there have been fierce fighting between the military council and the revolutionary forces in Tanintharyi Region, and the military council is conducting airstrikes, according to the revolutionary forces.

The joint revolutionary forces were able to temporarily control Mee Laung Chaung outpost in the fighting, but they were forced to withdraw due to continuous air strikes by the military council, said People’s Defense Force (PDF) comrades who participated in the operation.

At least five military council soldiers were killed while there were many casualties and those who ran way. Three resistance fighters were killed in the military council’s airstrike, according to the revolutionary forces.

On 30 January, there was an intense fighting between the military council and the revolutionary force in Launglon of Tanintharyi Region, resulting in civilian injuries, local residents said.

On 24 January, the joint revolutionary forces captured the military council’s Kyauk Htoo camp based in Dawei Township. Seven military council soldiers were arrested druing the fighting, according to the statements.
