The revolutionary force has warned the people taking shelter in Pyar Taung cave and the people who remain in the village in Kyaikmayaw Township of Mon State, to leave, according to local residents.
Thousands of locals from Pyar Taung have fled to safer places due to the ongoing fighting and the military council’s artillery shelling. Around 200 locals are taking shelter in Pyar Taung cave.
The revolutionary force does not give the reason why the locals are urged to leave the area. Locals said that the revolutionary forces’ request aims to ensure the safety of the public as the fighting may intensify at any time.
“The revolutionary forces told the elderly who remain in the village to move the IDPs in Pyartaung and the rest in the village to safer places within two or three days,” a local from Kawdwin said.
Following the warning by the revolutionary force, more than 200 locals taking shelter in Pyar Taung cave have fled to Kyunywa monastery, Kawpalaing monastery and other safer places.
“Currently, the situation is stable in Kyaikmayaw Township. Locals should not stay in the village as the fighting may erupt at any time. We are unsafe as long as our village is on the war front,” an another local said.
“The situation remained stable yesterday and today. However, I can’t predict whether the situation will be better or worse. The displaced people who are taking shelter in Pyar Taung are no longer allowed to stay there.
The region has seen intense fighting since the joint revolutionary force attacked Chaunghnakhwa village police station and Chaunghnakhwa bridge inspection gate in Kyaikmayaw Township on 10 November.
The fighting killed around five civilians and wounded at least 10 others. It also destroyed many civilian houses, according to local residents.
