Residents said that in Lahe Township in Naga Self-Administered Zone in the upper Sagaing region, residents are being paid daily wages and forced to attend militia training.
A resident said that local residents in Lahe of Naga Self-Administered Zone, are forced to attend militia training by paying 7,000 kyats per day. Civilians will have to attend militia training while civil servants will have to attend military training. Mothers of children do not need to attend it.
A local resident from Lahe said: “Civil servants are required to attend two-week militia training. All the men aged below 50 and the women aged below 40 have to attend it. Mothers of children do not need to attend it. The training course will be completed on 12 December. Ten from each ward have to attend it. The ward administration bodies are collecting the list of trainees.”
The training course is being conducted at Light Infantry Battalion-272 in Lahe. There are four wards in Lahe. The local residents of Lahe continued to object to the militia training, where 40 people will be taught per batch, the local resident continued.
“Most of the local residents in the ward are complaining about the training. They said the training would amount to making challenges and instigation. The soldiers from the battalion provide training. Departmental staff have to attend the shooting course,” the local resident added.
The collection of the names for the militia training is under way. The militia training course has opened since the third week of November, a Naga youth said.
“Now the civil servants are attending the military training course. I hear voices every day. Today the voices are silent. Civilians have not attended it yet,” the youth added.
After the military coup in Myanmar, the Naga in Sagaing Region has been a peaceful region without any fighting. Despite the peace, the military council forces are pressuring the local people to attend military training and militia training.
Lahe is the headquarters town of Naga Self-Administered Zone Leading Body and has a population of nearly 5,000 according to the 2019 Census.
