More than 1,500 people have been displaced by fighting between the military council and Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in Namkham Township on the China-Myanmar border.
Since the morning of 3 November, fighting has erupted between the military council and Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA). The military council conducts aerial bombardments. Local residents have fled to safer places.
Currently, IDPs are taking shelter at monasteries in Kunhai village-tract, Naungkham village-tract and Mantkun village in Namkham Township. The IDPs are in urgent need of aid, a person helping the IDPs said.
“At present, there are around 1,000 IDPs in Naungkham village. The number of IDPs is likely to increase. villagers provided food for the IDPs yesterday. They are in urgent need of ration and shelters,” he said.
The IDPs are from Aung Myat Thar ward, Tharyarkone ward and nearly 10 villages including Wanhaung (Mantkhaung) village, Kunlone and Naungmalone villages.
Fighting may erupt at any time due to the military tension between the military council and the TNLA in Namkham Township. The number of IDPs may increase, a local from Namkham said.
Fighting has displaced more than 20,000 people due to the Operation 1027 launched by the Three Brotherhood Alliance against the military council since 27 October.
Seventeen civilians have been killed and more than 20 others wounded by the exchange of fighting, heavy shelling and aerial bombardments, in a week.
