The Myanmar army has destroyed the connecting road between Daukyat, Khemauk and Shweyaungpya villages in two locations in Bilin Township, Mon State, according to local residents.
A military column of about 100 soldiers used excavators to destroy the two sections of the road between the villages at about 7 pm on 20 October, a local resident said.
“The army dug a trench across the road that was over four feet wide and five feet deep. The junta troops also destroyed the 25-foot bridge on the Shweyaungpya-Khemauk road,” the resident added.
The resident said the Myanmar army destroyed the road sections which are being used by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) to attack its forces.
However, local residents said that the destroyed road sections between villages was vital for the local people’s economy, social activities, education and health, and not for the resistance forces.
After the destruction of two sections of the connecting road, residents of more than 20 villages, including the villages of Khemauk, Kyoewaing, Kadipu, and Thitchataung, are facing difficulties in traveling on the road, local residents report.
Following the recent military coup, the Myanmar army destroyed more than ten inter-village roads, including those connecting districts in Kyaikto, Bilin and Thaton townships in Mon State.
