More than 500 locals have fled to safer places following fighting on Ye Bridge on Ye-Dawei road in new Kyonelaung village in Ye Township of Mon State, according to local residents.

On the morning of 20 October, the combined force of the Mon State Revolutionary Force (MSRF), Dawna column, Ye Guerrilla Force (YGF) and All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF) Battalion-1 attacked the military council troops stationed on Ye Bridge. Fighting took place for more than two and a half hours.

Fighting killed a man from the new Kyonelaung village and wounded one other, according to local residents.

A local woman from Kyonelaung village said: “More than 500 locals have fled to safer places. I have moved my children to the town. I am the only one left in the house as I have work. Some people have moved to the town. Some others have moved to the plantations. Some people have moved to Walzin.”

Local residents are still worried about renewed fighting even though the situation in the new Kyonelaung village is stable.

A local resident said: “Since this battle, not only myself, but everyone is afraid. Fearing it will happen again, they run away. I want to run away, but my job is here. So, I have to stay here. If something happens, I will move to the plantation. I can’t do it because I can’t afford it.”

Twenty-seven military council soldiers including two captains were killed and many others wounded in Ye fighting while 14 PDF members were wounded, according to the statement by the joint force.

On the morning of 17 October, there was a clash between the military council force and the joint PDF in Sanpya village in Ye Township.

In late June, thousands of people from Hnitkayin village fled to safer places due to the fighting between the military council and the combined force of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), the PDFs in Hnitkayin village in Ye Township.

There have been frequent clashes between the military council and the joint PDFs in Ye Township where martial law was imposed.
