Nearly 10,000 Internally Displaced People (IDPs) taking shelter in Mese Township of Karenni State which borders Thailand, are in need of clothes and shelters, according to the persons helping the IDPs.
There are nine IDP camps along the border in Mese Township. Most IDPs are taking shelter in the forests.
Maw Pareh Myar, Secretary-2 of Karenni Women Organization which is helping the IDPs in Mese said: “They are in need of mosquito nets and shelters as they have to take refuge in the forests. The women who delivered their babies are in need of rice. They have only two sets of clothes. They are in big trouble. The organizations hardly come here.”
Due to security reasons, donor organizations cannot reach the area. There are high demands for ration and general needs, she continued.
“They are in need of dry rations, edible oil, salt, chickpeas, chili, onion and garlic. Especially, they need rainproof sheets. They feel cold as they have to take shelter in the forests and under the trees. They demand mosquito repellent and baby shoes and clothes. Although there are schools in the refugee camps, children are still not allowed to go to school because of the necessities, she said.
Some people helping the IDPs are asking for donations of clothes and other supplies through Facebook pages.
