The Myanmar’s military council bombed a village in Hpruso Township, Karenni (Kayah) State, twice with a fighter jet at around 10 pm on 4 October, resulting in the destruction of homes and school buildings, according to residents.
A woman from the village said, “No one was hurt. But the houses were destroyed. Everyone got inside the bomb shelters at that time. My little brother didn’t even manage to get in. But he was not hurt, fortunately. There were seven family members sleeping in the house, including three children – five years, four years and one year old.”
A bomb landed near the school building, destroying the school building, toilets and teachers’ housing. In addition, four civilian houses were also destroyed, according to local residents.
The military council dropped bombs on the village, where there was no fighting, causing fear and panic among the residents, some of whom became displaced persons.
“We panicked and were very worried about my grandparents. It happened so suddenly that we didn’t know what to do. But fortunately, no one was hurt. The one who fell on the school grounds. If we hadn’t heard it coming, I can’t imagine how deadly it would have been. We spent the night on that side, the other house was badly damaged. We could have been hit by the big wooden bar or the heavy shells,” said the local woman.
Locals reported that some schools in Hpruso had been closed for fear of airstrikes and heavy shelling as fighting continued in some areas.
The village, where locals and displaced people have gathered, was also hit by artillery fire in September, according to locals.
Currently, fighting between the two sides continues in Hpruso, and the military council fired 120-mm artillery shells at villages, causing significant damage to homes, according to locals.
