The military council’s heavy shelling wounded 18 children in Budarsu in Joe Taung village of Wuntho Township in the upper Sagaing Region. Six of them were seriously wounded, according to locals and the statement by the Defense Ministry of National Unity Government (NUG).
At around 12:30 pm on 27 September, three heavy shells fired by the military council’s Light Infantry Battalion-102 landed and exploded on Khadiwantharyarma monastery in Budarsu in Joe Taung village in Wuntho Township, according to the statement by the NUG’s Defense Ministry.
According to the NUG statement, the children from Joe Taung village were studying the monastery when the shells fired by the military council exploded, and the children were wounded.
A local woman from Wuntho said: “The incident is true. I also heard that six children died. I don’t know exactly.”
This is a clear act of committing a war crime by the military council force without discrimination between civil target and military target, the statement said.
The military council frequently bombards the schools during the Spring Revolution. On 16 September, 2022, the military council’s bombardment on a school in Let Yet Kone village in Depayin Township of Sagaing Region killed more than 14 people including six school children.
