Military tensions are high between the Myanmar army and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in Seilant village in Muse Township, Shan State, as both sides vie to occupy the area, according to local sources.

Currently, TNLA troops are stationed at Saw Mon Hla Monastery in Seilant village, while junta troops are stationed near Seilant Primary School, said a local named Aik Lam (pseudonym).

“Their positions are only two furlongs away from each other. Clashes could happen at any time. That’s why people in Seilant village are extra careful,” he explained.

Given the presence of the armed groups in the village, residents fear an escalation of military tensions and take precautions when moving in the area.

In addition, Aik Lam added, an unidentified armed group came and confiscated three unexploded artillery shells fired by the military junta.

“Villagers found three unexploded 60mm shells after the recent fighting – one at Myauk Monastery and two others at the market. But they have disappeared since yesterday. We don’t know which armed group came and took them,” he said.

According to locals, fierce fighting broke out between the military and the TNLA from 28-31 August , and tensions remain high.

Some civilians were injured and buildings damaged in the clashes between the military and the TNLA. About 600 locals have been displaced, locals said.

Locals also said that houses and buildings damaged by the fighting have not yet been repaired and that help is needed to repair the damaged houses.
