Four civilians shot dead by military council in Myinmu

Four displaced men and two others wounded in the military council’s shootings in Ywatawlay village in Myinmu Township in Sagaing Region, according to locals.

At around 5 am on 14 August, the military column entered Ywatawlay village and fired shots, according to the persons helping the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Nganzun Township People’s Defense Force (PDF).

A person helping the IDPs said: “Those killed in the shooting are the IDPs. They are not from Ywatawlay. They are from Myinmu Township. The people from Myinmu are taking shelter in Ywatawlay. Four IDPs were killed and two others wounded in the incident.”

The military column abducted some innocent people, and the situation of those arrested is still unknown, local residents said.

Those who were shot and killed by the military council are from Aungthukha village in Nganzun Township of Mandalay Region. They fled to Myinmu Township as the military council force entered their village at the beginning of this month, the persons close to the victims said.

The military council column which shot and killed our IDPs came from Myinmu Township. According to the press release of the Nganzun Township PDF, the military column has a strength of at least 100 members when the military column opens fire.

On 5 August, the military column entered Yaylaethaung village in Nganzun Township and shot a local man dead according to locals.

It has been about nine days since the military column entered Nganzun. The military council conducted offensives into Htantabin, Yaylethaung, Nabaepin, Tharkyin and Kanthar villages in Nganzun Township. Currently, the military council is conducting an offensive into Ywatawlay village in Myinmu township, locals continued.

Locals have to flee to the Myinmu Township when the military column enters Nganzun Township. When the military column enters Myinmu Township, they have to flee back to Nganzun Township, locals said.

The people from the two townships are fleeing, but the exact number of the IDPs is not yet known, they said.

The military column covers nearly 200 members. Two military columns enter nearby villages and arrest and kill locals, burn houses, loot properties and destroy crops, according to locals.
