The military council burned down around 40 houses in Ayekani village in Dawei Special Economic Zone in Yebyu Township in Tanintharyi Region, according to locals.

On the morning of 14 August, the military council fired heavy and small weapons into the village and torched it.

A local man said: “Till 8 pm, the houses were on fire. The army torched the houses in row. Currently, no one dares to approach the village.”

Till now, the military council soldiers remain near Ayekani village and loot valuables from the houses.

On the morning of 15 August, a monk and a civilian who were taking shelter in the forest near Ayekani village, got bullet wounds in the military council’s shootings.

On 11 and 12 August, the military council burned down two houses and a hut in Warzwantaw village, according to locals.

The military council entered the Nabule area on 8 August and proceeded to Ayekani, Range, Warzwantaw and Konetharyarin villages on 9 August, locals said.

The military council’s offensives forced nearly 4,000 locals to flee. The Internally Displaced People (IDPs) are in need of food and shelter.

The military council arrested at least 20 locals after the offensives in Laeshaung, Hteingyi, Wetchaung, Khamaungchaung, Ayekani, Range, Warzwantaw and Konetharyarin village as of 8 August. Only some detainees are released by the military council, locals said.
