The Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) said it has buried some bodies of Myanmar army soldiers in a battlefield east of eastern Demoso Township in Karenni (Kayah) State that they found in recent days while conducting area clearance.

According to the KNDF, Myanmar army soldiers do not usually collect the bodies of the ethnic force members, but their weapons.

A KNDF information official also said that the resistance members had burned the bodies of the junta soldiers.

“It was in the places where fierce fighting took place. They were found only many months later. There are many bodies of military council soldiers in those areas. We cremated some of them at the time of the fighting. Some of them have disappeared,” the KNDF official said.

The KNDF official explained the situation of the bodies of Myanmar army soldiers left on the battlefields as follows:

“We found some bodies of military council soldiers that we could still pick up. We didn’t do anything special. We just did what we normally do. When we come across such bodies of junta soldiers, we bury them.”

He added that the situation of armed conflict with the Myanmar army in eastern Demoso Township was calm and no clashes were reported.

“The situation of fighting in the east is relatively calm at the moment, with only sporadic clashes. The situation is calm at the moment,” the KNDF information officer said.

The Myanmar army began advancing into eastern Demoso Township with a large number of troops in the first week of March 2023, resulting in daily clashes with local defense forces, according to the joint resistance forces.
