Junta soldiers take hostage, kill locals in Magway’s Myaing Township

Members of combined forces of the Myanmar army and the pro-military Pyu Saw Htee militia have taken hostages and killed locals during their military advance in Myaing Township, Magway Region, locals report.

Locals said a Myanmar army column of about 60 soldiers arrived in Aingma village on 26 July and were joined by other troops.

“For now, the column entered Aingma village. They set fire to a vehicle and also shot a mentally ill person in the head at close range. The Pyu Saw Htee members are rampaging through the villages,” said a local resident.

The person shot by the junta army was a 37-year-old man named Ko Nay Aung from Padaingdaw village. In addition, the junta members burned a vehicle and a motorcycle belonging to a resistance group, according to Spring Revolution Myaing Township, a social media site that reports local news.

Myanmar army soldiers also detained seven residents of Aingma village as human shields on 26 July. On 28 July, five of them were released, according to local residents.

Locals also reported that about 50 junta soldiers arrived in Kone village, while the Pyu Saw Htee column, which came from Aingma village, entered the pro-military village of Twinma.

On 29 July, members of the Pyu Saw Htee militia from the pro-junta village of Kanni went on a rampage in Lethtoketaw village, burning down three houses and confiscating six cattle and seven motorcycles, according to local residents.
