Karenni Internally Displaced People (IDPs) have called on the international community and the United Nations to create a safe and secure place for them and to put an end to the prolonged displacement.

Daw Hla Hla Win, a female IDP from Dawhlyarkhu village in Demoso Township, who is taking shelter in Dawnoeku IDP camp said: “What I want to call on the international community is we have been fleeing for generations. I don’t want our children and the future generations to flee like that. I want them to live a peaceful life.”

Karenni locals from Dawnoeku IDP camp said they feel unsafe and are worried about the military council’s bombardment.

Naw Mu See, warehouse manager of Dawnoeku IDP camp administrative committee said: “Due to the prolonged displacement and the lack of a safe place, we ask for a safe place to take refuge.”

Due to the ongoing fighting, Karenni people have been fleeing from one place to another.

“Although the IDPs are taking shelter here, they don’t feel very safe. I would like to request the international community to allow the IDPs from Dawnoeku camp to take refuge in a foreign country or in a safer place as soon as possible,” Naw Mu See continued.

Khun Robert, the office manager of Dawnoeku IDP camp’s administrative committee said: “We want the international community to create a safer life for the IDPs. For instance, we want the international community to help us with a system that can reduce the risk of heavy shelling and airstrikes. For instance, an early warning system for all IDPs. Even if we don’t get it, we want to ask the international community to designate a no-fly zone.”

After the coup, the military council forces have been fighting the Ethnic Revolutionary Organizations (EROs) and the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) formed by the National Unity Government (NUG).

The military council is carrying out the arrest, torture and killings of locals, the use of them as human shields, burning of houses, the forced eviction of all villagers, shelling into the villages and workplaces and airstrikes in conflict-affected areas

Due to such situations, local people have been fleeing from one place after another. They are facing accommodation and other difficulties.
