One man was killed and two others were arrested due to the military council’s pursuit and shooting of three logistic men in Hpakant Township of Kachin State, according to locals.

On the evening of 8 June, three logistic men were chased and shot by the military council army while coming from Mawtaung village to Hpakant, a person close to the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and People’s Defense Force (PDF) in Hpkant said.

“Yesterday, U Maung Aye and U Myint Lwin visited the house of U Thein. To be frank, they are responsible for logistics. They visited U Thein’s house after their duty. They are friends. They always have a conversation like this. U Maung Aye rushed to his car when soldiers tried to arrest him. He fell into the ditch when soldiers shot him. The soldiers pulled him out of the ditch and threw him into the back cover of their military vehicle. I heard this morning that U Maung Aye has died. I heard that U Myint Lwin was also tortured a lot.”

U Maung Aye is from Ayemyathayar ward. It is still difficult to confirm the status of the remaining two people.

As of January, 2023, the military council troops tried to fully control the entire Hpakant area. In March, the army replaced the division commander, according to locals.

Regarding the round-the-clock crackdowns in Hpakant Township, a man engaged in the revolution said: “More and more youths get arrested in Hpakant as the soldiers are patrolling using private cars and plain-clothes soldiers are collecting information. The military council is making massive crackdowns as it gets information. At present, soldiers are in hot pursuit of logistic men and PDF members.”

On 24 May, the military council raided a guesthouse in Lonekin village and arrested five men. Then, the military released four men and continued to detain a man for alleged links to the KIA and the PDF.
