Refugees are in urgent need of shelter and food as cyclone Mocha destroyed all houses in Tain Nyo IDP camp in MraukU Township.
At present, there are very few donors, so the war refugees are facing many difficulties. A total of 2,865 people from 773 households are taking shelter at Tain Nyo IDP camp.
A female from Tain Nyo IDP camp said: “The availability of rations and shelter is very difficult. At night, there is no place to sleep due to the rain. I was heartbroken to see the children.”
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was the main source of support for refugees in the past. Since January 2023, the World Food Program (WFP) has taken over the ICRC’s responsibilities and is assisting the IDPs, the IDPs said.

“We regularly get cash assistance of 21,000-MMK from the WFP. We no longer received drinking water, rice and shelter. We are in trouble as we no longer get support from the ICRC. We have to rely on the money we got from working outside and the money I received from WFP. The situation becomes worse following the storm. Now there is no place to live. We have no enough food. All IDPs have necessities,” said an in-charge of the IDP camp.
Refugees called on local and foreign donors to make donations as they are in urgent need of shelter and rations and urged relevant authorities not to ignore them. As far as I’ve heard in the news, there are donors, but I heard that they can’t donate as the government doesn’t allow it. Even if the organizations were not allowed to enter during the war, we request that they be allowed under the circumstances of this natural disaster.”
A female IDP said: “Please help us as much as possible. We have to bear the brunt of war. It is very difficult for us to survive in the rainy season in this condition.
The Tin Nyo camp was built in 2019 when the military council and the Arakan Army (AA) were fighting fiercely. Locals from Waitharli, lower Thakan, Buywetnahnyo, Pyaukpyinkwin, Khuhlaing, Pyaingtaung, Letkar and Hnamadar villages are taking shelter at the camp.
