Influential civil society organizations in the Indian state of Mizoram – Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA), Central Young Lai Association (CYLA) and Mara Thyutlia Py (MTP) – reportedly met in Lunglei on 18 April to discuss the issue of refugees from Myanmar.

As reported by Mizoram daily Vanglaini, the leaders of the three groups met in Lunglei town and discussed ways to cooperate on the issue of refugees coming from neighboring countries.

“We discussed how we can work together for the safety of refugees from neighboring countries,” said Pu R. Lalngheta, president of CYMA.

Some of the points discussed at the meeting are to systematically screen and record refugees from neighboring countries to ensure their safety; share information about refugees; require them to live according to the will of the people of Mizoram; and notify civil society organizations in the village if they want to move from one place or ward to another; not to allow other NGOs to interfere when CYMA, CYLA and MTP conduct censuses; and to require other organizations to use the data they have collected when they need data on refugees.
