Military council troops reportedly arrested and assaulted the Innma village administrator during a clash with People’s Defense Force – Mandalay (MDY-PDF) in Naungcho Township, Shan State.

Locals told the Shan Herald that regime soldiers arrested the Innma village administrator and his wife and beat them.

“The junta troops arrested him when they entered Innma village. They also took his wife. They beat him during the arrest and I heard that he was also beaten after being taken away,” a Naungcho resident told Shan Herald on condition of anonymity.

Residents also said they do not know why the village administrator and his wife were arrested and beaten and where they are being held.

Although fighting in the area has calmed, military council troops have taken up positions in Hokho village, locals say.

“There is no more fighting on the ground, but the situation is still tense. The roads are still blocked by the junta troops and locals have not been allowed to use the roads. Not all displaced people have returned to their homes yet. Some houses have been damaged,” said the resident.

At least 20 houses were damaged or destroyed during the fighting between the regime and MDY-PDF, which lasted more than ten days since 5f April.

The fighting reportedly forced more than 1,000 people from Konegyi, Hokhe, Konenyaung, Ye-U, Kyukaw, Narnwet, Tawmun, Innma, Hokho, Kular and Lweingin villages to seek safety.

Currently, the displaced are taking shelter in Ohnmathee, Lankhwe and Bantbway monasteries and are worried about returning to their villages.

In February, a civilian was also shot dead by junta soldiers during fighting between the Myanmar Army and MDY-PDF.
