Most Internally Displaced People (IDPs) don’t dare to return home although there are no battles in Tanintharyi Township of Tanintharyi Region where martial law is imposed, in recent days, the persons helping the IDPs told the Than Lwin Times.
Fighting took place between the military council and the revolutionary force in Tanintharyi Township from 28 March to 12 April.
Nearly 15,000 locals from more than 10 villages including Thaephyu, Chaunghnapauk, Banlamwit, Ranpho, Nyaungbinkone and Kanto villages fled to the forests and nearby villages.
The situation has returned to normal in recent days. The IDPs don’t dare to return home as they worry that fighting resumes, the person helping the IDPs said.
The IDPs are in need of basic foodstuffs, medicine, shelters and drinking water.
Due to the fighting during the two-year coup, the total number of IDPs has exceeded 40,000 in Tanintharyi Region, according to the data from local research organizations.
