Locals fled to safer places as the military council burned down four civilian houses and fired heavy shells in Alulay village in Bilin Township of Thaton District in Mon State on 12 April, locals from Bilin Township said.
The military council burned down civilian houses after a combined force of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) attacked the military council troop stationed in Alulay village on the morning of 12 April. Then, the military council in Winpyan village fired heavy shells. Due to shelling, a local woman got minor wounds. Locals fled for safety.
“Four houses are good. House owners are not present as they have abandoned their houses since the battle. An elderly woman got wounded in her arm as the heavy shell landed on the east of Alugyi village. The soldiers seized cars and motorcycles from some villagers who came back to the village from the town during the battle. At present, almost all people from Alulay village have fled for safety, the local told the Karen Information Center (KIC).
The military council has carried out the reinforcement of soldiers in Alulay and Winpyan villages. Tension mounts, according to the ground news sources.
A local said: “Currently, villagers are taking shelter in the houses of relatives and safer places. The army wants to station in the village. Soldiers burned down the houses as they could do nothing.”
The KIC is trying to get contact with relevant officials in order to know the casualties from both sides.
On 29 March, a combined force of the KNLA and the PDFs ambushed the military convoy near Alulay village. Two locals were killed in the junta soldiers’ indiscriminate shootings.
Locals cannot do their work well and have to live in fear as the junta soldiers are stationed in the said villages by installing heavy shells since 31 March, according to local news sources.
