The military council’s artillery shelling wounded seven persons including three children in Wettoe village in Palaw Township of Tanintharyi Region where martial law was declared, locals told the Than Lwin Times.
The military council troops stationed in Pawlawkone village fired more than four rounds of heavy shells into Wettoe village at around 9.30 am on 5 April.
The heavy shells landed on the houses near Wettoe village school.
The heavy shell hit and wounded Maung Kaung Pyae Wa, 2, Ma Waing Pone Chit,4, Maung Toe Tat Aung, 8 and other family members.
The wounded persons were sent to the nearby hospital. Among the wounded, a child and a woman are in critical condition, a local said.
Some locals fled to safer places as the military fired heavy shells into Wettoe village on the morning of 6 April.
There has been frequent fighting between the military council and the revolutionary forces following the declaration of martial law in Palaw Township. The military council’s artillery shelling resulted in civilian casualties.
