Military council troops who entered Pulawkone and Nateainhtaung villages in Palaw Township, Tanintharyi Region, have shot and killed two civilians for no apparent reason, locals told Than Lwin Times.

On 25 March, Pulawkone resident U Tin Oo and Nateainhtaung resident Ko Myo Min Thu were shot dead when more than 50 junta soldiers entered the villages.

After the military council troops clashed with the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) that day, the two villagers who fled the clashes were shot dead on the village roads.

The fighting in Palaw forced more than 1,000 people from Palawkone, Nateainhtaung, Shandut, and other neighboring villages to flee to safety. Although no further clashes were reported on 27 March, tensions between the two sides remain high.

Since the imposition of martial law on Palaw Township on 2 February, Myanmar army troops have conducted continuous military activities there, followed by at least 20 clashes with resistance groups.
