The military council troops burned Kayingyi village in Launglon Township of Tanintharyi Region on the morning of 8 March, locals and members of the People’s Defense Force (PDF) told the Than Lwin Times.
A military column of more than 60 junta soldiers entered Kayingyi village on 6 March and then burned the village.
More than five civilian houses were burned down. The exact number of burnt houses is still unknown.
All the people from Kayingyi village have fled to safer places due to the military council’s operation.
A combined military column which burned down Kayingyi village remains in Kayingyi and Kyauksin, Thabawseik villages and Maungmakan road section. The military column is likely to conduct an offensive, an official of the Launglon PDF said.
Thousands of locals from five villages including Kayingyi, Thabawseik, Kyauksin and Pyingyi villages have fled for safety due to the military council’s offensive in Launglon Township.
According to the report by the Southern Monitor, a research organization, on 4 March, the military council burned down 435 civilian houses in Tanintharyi Region following the coup.
