Military council troops reportedly murdered a married couple on the night of 8 February in Hmantaw village on Kalay-Gangaw Road in the southern part of Kalay Township and burned the bodies of the two along with the house.
The couple murdered by regime soldiers were identified as Pu Hram Mang, 52, and his wife Ma Moe Kalayar, 32.
Around 11 pm on 8 February, regime soldiers came to their house and opened fire on the house for no apparent reason.
The soldiers then tied Pu Hram Mang and his wife with their hands behind their backs, murdered them and burned their house down, according to people close to the victims.
Pu Hram Mang’s father-in-law, U Maung Cho, said, “I only found out when others told me about it because I was in the forest at the time. Both my daughter and her husband were killed. The house was also burned down. I abhor such inhumane acts that were done to my daughter. We buried the bodies in the Christian cemetery in Sharhpo village.”
Due to frequent clashes between military council troops and the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) near Hmantaw village, most villagers have fled to safer places such as other villages and forests for more than a year.
The couple murdered by the military council soldiers left behind two children.
Also, on 9 February at around 6 pm, regime soldiers killed 19-year-old Maung Bee Lo Than, also known as Bee Bee, the son of the pastor of Lauk Tu Baptist Church, by indiscriminate gunfire in Taung Zalatt ward in Kalay.
