More than 4,000 people displaced by the battles in Tanintharyi Township of Tanintharyi Region are in urgent need of rations, according to the persons helping the Internally Displaced People (IDPs).

Locals have fled to safer places and forests due to the battles.

Tension between the military council troops and a combined force of People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) continues to mount. Locals find it difficult to buy rations due to the military council’s ban and restrictions.

The IDPs have to share their food with other IDPs. Soon, the IDPs may face a shortage of rations, a person who is helping the IDPs said.

More than 4,000 locals were displaced by the fighting in Tanintharyi Region from 23 to 29 January.
The military council’s artillery shelling killed two locals and wounded 17 others.

Currently, there is no fighting. The IDPs don’t dare to return to home as the military council is firing heavy shells every day.
