As from January 16, all the schools in Thantlang Township in Chin State are closed until further notice as the military council may conduct airstrikes, according to the statement by the Education Department under the Thantlang Township Public Administration.
“The military council is committing atrocities and even the bombings of schools and civilian targets. This is a worrying situation. We feel unsafe as surveillance flights are frequently flying following the attack on Camp Victoria. So, we decided to close the schools,” said Salai Cross Thang, in-charge of the Thantlang Education Department of the Public Administration.
The public administrative body has warned the public to avoid playing in school areas, holding funfairs and public gatherings when the schools are closed.
On January 10 and 11, the military council’s jet fighters dropped bombs on the Chin National Front (CNF) headquarters, Camp Victoria located in Thantlang Township.
Locals worry about the military council’s new airstrikes as the military council’s surveillance flights are flying in the sky of Thantlang Township.
In Thanglang Township, the public administrative body has opened 65 schools where more than 15,000 schools are pursuing their education. Around 90 percent of all school-age children in Thanglang Township have easy access to education.
